NICAS Climbing allows candidates to learn about safety, equipment, training, progression, and the many other positive aspects of becoming a climber. Combine this with life skills – trust, communication, teamwork, self-confidence, awareness, risk management and understanding limitations – and it quickly becomes clear why climbing is an amazing sport. A huge amount of learning and development takes place at the climbing wall. With a nationally recognised syllabus to follow, certificates for achievement, and a structured pathway, children can keep progressing through the NICAS schemes while having a great time. Please note: NICAS Development sessions - These sessions are for those who have already completed several terms with us and have been requested to move up by The Climbing Team.) *can be started from 7 a term or two. Wild Climbers may benefit those who are less confident. We can also arrange a taster to see what class may be appropriate. Please book the appropriate class. Additional InformationAdditional InformationThe course will be running every Thursday 17:05-18:35 This is a 6 week block; Please note the minimum NICAS requirements to complete each level. NICAS's guidelines for the minimum time commitment at each level of NICAS Climbing, but talk to your local centre to get a feel for what's right for your child. Minimums are just that and may not account for individual variations and unique circumstances Level 1: 4 hours over at least two sessions (but many centres run over 4, 6, 8 or more weeks, and this will assist in consolidating the skills being learnt) Level 2 12 hours (usually at least 12 weeks of lessons) Level 3 16 hours with a coach, with another 12 hours of climbing under light-touch supervision* Level 4 20 hours with a coach, with another 16 hours of climbing under light-touch supervision** Level 5 One year of regular climbing * Each Level's hours are stand-alone; for example, Level 2 NICAS Climbing is an additional 12 hours (at least!) once they have graduated from Level 1. The higher levels of each scheme require candidates to visit other centres and enter competitions, so at this stage you may be called on as a taxi service to take them |
