MGSM 2026

Medical Gases for Service Managers October 2026

Description

The Medical Gases for Service Managers course has been developed by NHS TSET (the Technical Specialist Education and Training group) and is facilitated by the University of Leeds.

For more information about TSET visit https://www.tset.org.uk

What will I learn?
This course will cover:

  • the general provision of medical gases

  • the legal position, roles and duties of personnel involved in the provision of medical gases

  • a description of services and some potential problems and hazards

  • a guided walk-through of the medical gas pipeline systems and cylinder management

How will I benefit?
Medical gases are an essential part of modern medical therapy and treatment, but where do they come from, and how do they get to the patient? This is a subject and a task that tends to be taken somewhat for granted in most hospitals, but medical gases are medicines and as such are one of the responsibilities of chief pharmacists, matrons or senior managers in hospitals where pharmacists are not present.

MED GAS 2026

Pharmaceutical Medical Gas Testing (Update) Refresher and Reassessment Programme 2026

Description

This course is only open to those on the current register of QC(MGPS) requiring a refresher training / assessment.

Developed to ensure continued compliance with HTM 02-01 and NHS Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance Committee standards, this course refreshes and assesses the essential skills and knowledge required of Quality Controllers (MGPS). Delegates who successfully pass both the practical assessment and examination will be re-registered as Quality Controller (MGPS) or be eligible to apply.
Please note, the reassessment process is of the delegate’s general knowledge of Medical Gas Testing, not necessarily of the knowledge gained during this two-day course. This is to assure ongoing competence of those retained on the QC(MGPS) register under HTM 02-01.

As part of the formal assessment of competency, you will be sent a pre-course task/scenario to complete to see how you would test etc. This will be sent out four weeks before the course and you should bring it with you to the course as part of the mandatory assessment.

Registration for the course is at 09:00 on day one and we aim to finish at 15:30 on day two.

Please note, it is very important you to plan your return travel to enable you to attend the whole course.

If you are unable to pay online then please email cpd@healthcare.leeds.ac.uk to request a manual registration form.
