1: Wild Climbers- 4 to 6/7yrs

Description

NICAS WILD CLIMBERS

NICAS Wild Climbers is a fun, game-filled scheme available from age 4 at The Edge. It aims to introduce climbers safely into the indoor climbing environment in the early years.

  • Ages: 4-6
  • Type of Climbing: Age-appropriate traversing, bouldering and top-roping 
  • Progression: Earn animal certificates for six different climbing skills

NICAS Wild Climbers offers climbing skills for all ages 4 to 6/7. It's a fun, game-orientated programme that aims to introduce climbers safely into the indoor climbing environment, develop their awareness of climbing movements, improve their confidence, and create a grassroots pathway for additional climbing activities. 

NICAS Wild Climbers meets the 3 key learning areas of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage), which is the precursor to Key Stage 1 and includes Communication, Physical Development, and Social & Emotional Development.

Your first term is £60, which includes the cost of the Wild Climbers Logbook (RRP £15). All the following terms are £50.

2. NICAS Climbing Courses- 8 to 17yrs

Description

NICAS Climbing 8-17yrs

  • Ages: 7-18* 
  • Type of Climbing: Bouldering and Top-roping 
  • Progression: Levels 1, 2 and 3 (click read more and then additional information for further details on each level)

NICAS Climbing allows candidates to learn about safety, equipment, training, progression, and the many other positive aspects of becoming a climber. Combine this with life skills – trust, communication, teamwork, self-confidence, awareness, risk management and understanding limitations – and it quickly becomes clear why climbing is an amazing sport. A huge amount of learning and development takes place at the climbing wall.

With a nationally recognised syllabus to follow, certificates for achievement, and a structured pathway, children can keep progressing through the NICAS schemes while having a great time.

Please note: NICAS Development sessions - These sessions are for those who have already completed several terms with us and have been requested to move up by The Climbing Team.)  

*can be started from 7 a term or two. Wild Climbers may benefit those who are less confident. We can also arrange a taster to see what class may be appropriate.

Our home-educated rock climbing sessions are the perfect option for teaching your young people about the fun and active sport of climbing. They are similar to our regular NICAS sessions but at a more convenient time.

Birthday Parties

Are you looking for something a little different for your child's party? Then why not book a climbing party at The Edge. We can offer young people a fun, exciting time climbing with games and activities under the supervision of our centre instructors. 

The climbing session can be either 1 or 1.5 hours long, Suitable for age 7 years and over with a maximum group size of 12 people. 

We would recommend children wear clothing that they can move around in and preferably not jeans. 

We currently do not have an area which can be used for refreshments after (This is something we are looking into in the near future)

Educational Climbing

Description

School and College Rock Climbing Sessions @ The Edge   

  • School and college courses can be tailored to fit GCSE and A-level requirements.  

  • Bookable as one-off taster sessions or groups of lessons.  

  • Available as part of the NICAS scheme.  

As part of the national curriculum - physical education in schools should provide an opportunity in KS2, KS3 and KS4 to partake in outdoor adventurous activities, so why not bring them climbing. This often allows pupils to try something completely new and offers great levels of personal challenge  

During these sessions, the group has sole occupancy of the wall.

1.5hr sessions – £12.50pp - There is a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 16

2 x 1.5 hr developmental session £20.00 for the two sessions – These sessions develop skills such as Tying in, Belaying, safety awareness and basic climbing techniques – There is a minimum of 6 and a Maximum of 12 (Scouts and Guides- This can support the achievement of the climbing or heights badge)
