NICAS Climbing CoursesWhat is NICAS? The National Indoor Climbing Award Schemes (NICAS) have been developed to help everyone enjoy the best start in climbing. NICAS Climbing gives candidates the opportunity to learn about safety, equipment, training and progression as well as the many other positive aspects of becoming a climber. Combine this with life skills – trust, communication, teamwork, self-confidence, awareness, risk management and understanding limitations – and it quickly becomes clear why climbing is an amazing sport. There is a huge amount of learning and development that takes place at the climbing wall. With a nationally recognised syllabus to follow, certificates for achievement, and a structured pathway, children can keep progressing through the NICAS schemes while having a great time along the way. NICAS Climbing CoursesNICAS Climbing Courses- 8-17yrsDescriptionWe split NICAS into two classes: NICAS Beginner and NICAS Development. NICAS Beginner- Level 1 These sessions are for those who have not already completed a term with us and are new to roped climbing. Level 1- New Climber An entry-level aimed at novices that recognises their ability to climb safely under supervision. NICAS Development- Level 2/3 These sessions are for those who have already completed at least one term with us. Level 2- Foundation Climber Aimed at promoting good practice in climbing and belaying unsupervised on an artificial wall. Level 3 - Technical Climber A more advanced top-roping and bouldering award that focuses on developing technique and movement skills. This is aimed at ensuring a candidate possesses the knowledge and skill to climb and belay safely at any climbing facility (whether under supervision or with back-up) and operate in a responsible manner. Achievement at this level is broadly equivalent to a pass at GCSE. Please book the appropriate class. If the incorrect class is booked, you will be refunded. NICAS Wild Climbers- 4 to 7yrsDescriptionNICAS WILD CLIMBERS NICAS Wild Climbers is a fun, game-filled scheme available from age 4 at The Edge. It aims to introduce early years climbers safely into the indoor climbing environment.
NICAS Wild Climbers offers climbing skills for all, from age 4 to 6. It's a fun, game orientated programme that aims to introduce climbers safely into the indoor climbing environment, developing their awareness of climbing movements, improving confidence and creating a grassroots pathway into additional climbing activities. NICAS Wild Climbers meets the 3 key learning areas of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) which is the precursor to Key Stage 1, and includes Communication, Physical Development, and Social & Emotional Development. Your first term is £70 which includes the cost of the Wild Climbers Logbook (RRP £15) all following terms are £65.
