Active Campus for StaffThe Sport and Physical Activity Service (SPA) welcome you to take part in our ACTIVE CAMPUS programme for university staff and postgraduate researchers. It’s a great way to move your body, have fun and meet new people from across the university. You don't need to have an Edge membership to participate. The sessions vary in duration and time of day to suit as many staff members as possible. All levels and abilities are welcome. Please take a look at our timetable below. BadmintonActive Campus Staff BadmintonDescriptionStaff Social Badminton Our staff badminton sessions are a great way to take an active break during your workday and meet some new people. The badminton sessions are inclusive of all abilities whether you have played before or not. All University of Leeds staff are welcome to join these sessions. The sessions will be facilitated by one of our activators, and will involve drills, games and singles and doubles matchplay for all levels. We have two sessions per week to choose from (or you could attend both!). Please note this is not a coached session. Wednesday 12:30-1.15pm @ The Edge - Hall 2 Thursday 1-1:45pm @ The Gryphon Centre - Woodsley Road Please speak to reception on arrival who will direct you. You don’t need any special kit, and all equipment will be provided (but feel free to bring your own racquet if you have one). Wear trainers and something you’re comfortable in, come along, take a break and enjoy some badminton with colleagues. We recommend bringing some water, but we do have water foundtains available for you to use also. Showers and lockers are available at both sites.
NetballActive Campus Staff NetballDescriptionStaff Social Netball Our staff netball sessions are a great way to take an active break during your workday and meet some new people. The netball sessions are inclusive of all abilities whether you’ve not played since school, never played at all or play regularly. All University of Leeds staff are welcome to join these sessions. The sessions will be facilitated by one of our activators, and will involve drills, games and matchplay for all levels. We have one session per week. Please note this is not a coached session. Thursday 11.30- 12.30pm in The Edge, Hall 2. Please speak to reception on arrival who will direct you if you are unsure where to go. You don’t need any special kit – just wear trainers and something you’re comfortable in and come along, take a break and enjoy some netball with colleagues. Please tie up long hair and remove jewellery for the session. We recommend bringing some water. There are water fountains available outside the sports hall. Showers and lockers are also available.
ClassesActive Campus Staff CalisthenicsDescriptionIntroduction to Calisthenics Join us for this introduction to Calisthenics class. No previous experience is required, this is designed for beginners. Calisthenics is a form of strength training that utlises an individual's bodyweight as resistance to perform multi joint compound movements with little or no equipment. It relies on bodyweight for resistance which naturally adapts to an individual's unique physical attributes. This allows calisthenics exercsies to be personalised and accessible for various body structures and age ranges. Tuesdays 1:15-2pm at the studio in the Staff Wellbeing Hub. You don’t need any special kit – just wear trainers and something you’re comfortable in. We recommend bringing a bottle of water with you.
Active Campus Staff Power YogaDescriptionStaff Power Yoga Class Power Yoga is a dynamic, full-body cardio workout that links yoga poses with breath to improve balance, strength, and flexibility. This style of yoga is suitable for anyone seeking to practise yoga or enhance their fitness routine. You don't need to have tried yoga before to take part, the instructors will introduce you to the movements and always provide options for all abilities. Mondays 5:30-6:30pm in The Edge. Reception will direct you to the studio. You don’t need any special kit – just wear trainers and something you’re comfortable in. Active Campus Staff ShapesDescriptionStaff Shapes class An invigorating blend of Pilates, barre, and power yoga set to modern beats. With small, controlled movements, you sculpt and strengthen all major muscle groups, improve alignment and increase flexibility. Aimed at those who want a full body, dynamic workout suitable for all fitness and ability levels. Keywords are strength and flexibility with minimal impact on joints. You don't need to have tried Shapes before to take part, the instructors will always provide options for those just getting started. Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm in The Edge. Active Campus Staff SpinDescriptionStaff 30-minute spin Come and join this 30-minute spin class which is a great introduction to indoor cycling. All University of Leeds staff are welcome to join these sessions which will be led by Michelle and Patrick teaching alternate weeks.
Wednesdays 5:00-5:30pm in the spin studio at The Edge. Please speak to reception on arrival, who will direct you.
You don’t need to have tried spin before; the session caters for all experience and fitness levels. Michelle and Patrick will motivate you and help you find your spinning flow to classic tunes from the 80s, 90s and 00s. You’ll raise your heart rate and your endorphin levels!
