Join Get Out, Get Active for a walking trip exploring Ambleside, located in the picturesque Lake District National Park. Ambleside sits at the northern point of Lake Windermere, the largest natural lake in England.

Detailed Description

Ambleside is based in the world-famous Lake District, home to lovely landscapes, rolling hills and beautiful views. It is famed as the home of William Wordsworth and the inspiration for many of the great Lakes Poets, it is one of the jewels of the English countryside. 

The trip will offer two guided walking options. There will be a shorter walk for those wanting to experience the views, and a longer walk for those looking to explore further in this beautiful setting. Both walks will take you up and away from the lake and into the surrounding countryside.

After exploring the varied terrain, we will lead you back to Ambleside where you will have some free time to explore some of the shops and cafes that the Cumbrian town has to offer. Please note that the length of time to explore Ambleside will depend on which route option you pick.

You will need good outdoor walking shoes or strong trainers (you don’t mind getting muddy) plus a layer of waterproof clothing. You will also need a change of footwear for after the walk, and a bag for you muddy shoes/boots.

We have a limited amount of kire for hire which includes walking boots and waterproof jackets. The hire form will be released on the week of the walk.

Transport:

We will travel via coach departing from Parkinson steps at 08:00 and returning at 18:30. This is included in the ticket cost. This is included in the ticket cost.

What you need to bring:

Please come in suitable footwear for uneven and unpaved terrain (walking boots or strong trainers). You will also need:

  • Spare footwear to change into after the walk and a bag for your muddy boots or shoes
  • Waterproof jacket and warm clothes
  • Food/Packed Lunch and a water bottle for during the walk
  • Money/Card if you wish to purchase items in the town

Walking trip terms and conditions:

You must be at least 17 years of age to attend this trip.

When booking a place for this event, the named participant is making a commitment to attend the event, to travel to and from the destination on the organised coach provided and to remain with the group and leaders at all times during the guided walk.

Please note that any inappropriate behaviour or failure to follow instructions provided by the trip leaders will not be tolerated and will result in appropriate action.

If after payment a participant cannot attend for any reason, including illness, injury and emergencies, the participant will not be entitled to a refund. The event organiser will be as accommodating as possible if the participant cannot attend, and will deal with cases on an individual basis up to one week before the event. We advise that in the event of the named candidate not being able to attend that they find a replacement to take their position and notify the event organiser at least one week before the date of the event. No changes can be made within one week of the event.
