Detailed Description

This professional development course provides an advanced understanding of trauma and its impact on individuals and communities. Participants will explore key trauma theories, including developmental, relational, neurobiological, somatic and socio-cultural perspectives, and learn how these inform trauma-informed care. The course emphasizes practical application of core principles: safety, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural humility across clinical, educational, and community settings. It includes discussion of trauma presentations such as PTSD and CPTSD, strategies for maintaining psychological safety, and approaches to prevent vicarious trauma and burnout. Through interactive sessions and experiential activities, participants will build confidence in integrating trauma-informed practices ethically and sensitively, while working effectively in interprofessional teams.
