A behind the scene tour of the pig facility (£10 per person exc VAT).
Detailed Description
You can expect to see a well-presented 3 week batch system where in Farrowing, sows and piglets are housed in Freedom Farrowing Crates. Piglets are weighed and tagged at day 1 and monitored at day 7, and at weaning, before moving into the Nursery.
In the Nursery, each piglet’s weight, food and water intake is monitored and their diets calculated and changed automatically. Rooms can also be adjusted to split groups for research trials.
From the Nursery, they move into the PPT and Finisher houses that exhibit innovative technology that allows the stockperson to automatically track each pig’s FCR.
The Sow house is run as one dynamic herd, with the option to split into 2, where each Sow is automatically fed according to her individual feeding curve. In here, there is an automatic monitoring system for heat detection and this system also allows for batch farrowing and vaccination separation.
