What is an academic verification?

An academic verification confirms a student's basic programme and award information. It includes a student’s course start and end dates, and classification (if applicable). We are unable to verify information over the telephone.

Who can apply?

This service is for third parties needing to verify a current or former student’s academic information. Current and former students are not able to use this service. 

If you need a character reference

If you are a third party organisation and you require a character reference, you should contact the student’s school or department.

How to apply

How to register

To make an enquiry you need to register with Prospects Hedd by visiting www.hedd.ac.uk. Select ‘University of Leeds’ from the list of UK higher education institutions and choose the option to 'verify a degree award'. You will also be required to upload a signed consent form. Please ensure you adhere to the specific consent requirements before submitting your request as this will result in a delay to your request being actioned. 

Submitting an enquiry

You’ll need the individual’s name, date of birth, course and qualification. For graduates, you'll also need their year of graduation and degree result. Dates of attendance will be given alongside the verification response.

To ensure your verification is submitted correctly, and to receive a quick response, we recommend you input the data as per the degree certificate, or ask individuals to give you their data as they believe it is recorded in the student records system, or at the time of study.

Providing the candidate’s written consent

Before we proceed with your request we need to have received the consent form signed by the candidate. If you are unable to download it via the Hedd Dashboard, please contact [email protected].

Price

There is a charge of £14 for each academic verification request. This is independent of whether we can or cannot confirm a student’s qualification or attendance, and whether you can or cannot obtain the student’s consent.

If you would like us to verify more than one degree, e.g. Bachelors and Masters, you will need to apply for an academic verification for each programme of study.

If you would like us to verify the degree of more than one student, please place a separate order for each student.

Delivery

Academic verifications may take up to 4 weeks to be processed from the date that we receive your request and the candidate’s signed consent form. Our response will be submitted via the Prospects Hedd Dashboard, which you can view by logging into your Prospects Hedd account.
