Join us on Wednesday 3rd of December 2025. 10am – 4.30pm. Fostering curiosity in the systemic community around issues of age and ageism is now essential as we are all living longer. Invitations to curiosity around age and ageism can only bear more fruitful opportunities for us all as we move towards later life and live alongside our ageing communities. The aim of this day together is to provide a safe space to begin to explore the challenges and benefits of working systemically with older people and our hope is invite practitioner curiosity. We will have conversations about challenging ageism, the social construction of ageing, and useful systemic skills and techniques to draw on when working with older people and their significant systems.
Participants will learn about;
Ageism – including internalised ageism
The Importance of cohort effects and beliefs
Listening and double listening for stories of trauma and stories of hope
The social construction of ageing and dominant discourses about later life
Useful systemic skills and techniques when working with older people and their significant systems- we will primarily be focusing on narrative practices such as re-membering conversations and the use of definitional ceremonies

Important Information
In order to make our trainings as accessible as possible and keep costs low refreshments will not be provided in the fee but there are several refreshment options for delegates in the Worsley Building

The workshop fee is exempt from VAT. Bookings are accepted on the understanding that the workshop is offered in good faith but may have to be rescheduled or altered for reasons outside the control of the organiser. The University of Leeds reserves the right to cancel the workshop, in which case the fees will be refunded in full. In the event of cancellation, the University will not be held liable for delegates' travel or accommodation expenses. Where a delegate wishes to cancel a booking, written cancellations received up to 14 days prior to the start of the workshop will be accommodated. After this date the full fee is chargeable and no refund will be made. However, we can accept substitution of a delegate at any time without additional charge.
Certificates of attendance for CPD will be available at the end of the workshop.
