Overview
This training explores the complexities, dilemmas and possibilities that arise when working with clients with diverse spiritual and religious beliefs and practices. Through a mixture of discussion, deliberate practice, small‑group work and structured reflection, you will be invited to examine your own beliefs and positioning and develop a broader range of skills for navigating conversations with clients about faith, spirituality and religion.

About the facilitator
Raphael Cadenhead brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this training. As a systemic psychotherapist, supervisor, and social worker, he has extensive knowledge of working with families and individuals in complex contexts. Raphael currently oversees the delivery of Functional Family Therapy (FFT) for children at risk of extra-familial harm across three London boroughs, demonstrating his commitment to systemic approaches in challenging environments. In addition to his clinical work, Raphael is actively involved in teaching, lecturing, and providing consultancy services, contributing to the development of systemic practice at multiple levels. His academic background includes a PhD in Theology and Religious Studies from the University of Cambridge, which informs his nuanced understanding of the intersections between faith, spirituality, and therapeutic practice. This unique combination of practical experience and scholarly insight positions Raphael as an authoritative and empathetic facilitator, capable of guiding participants through complex and sensitive topics with clarity and respect.
