Join GOGA for a brand new walking trip for 2024 to explore Helmsley, a charming market town in the North York Moors National Park, and the surrounding countryside. Known for its historic castle ruins, peaceful countryside and independent shops and cafes, Helmsley offers a perfect GOGA experience for nature lovers looking to discover somewhere new.
Detailed Description
The walking routes will start in Helmsley at the beginning of the Cleveland Way and will follow this route towards the historic ruins of Rievaulx Abbey, a 12th century monastery - taking in the beautiful woodlands, valleys and trails in the area.
Helmsley is a popular market town, famous for its castle, quaint scenery and Viking and medieval history, - having been on records since before the 10th century. The town nowadays is a walkers dream with routes packed with history, weaving throughout the quaint landscape of beautiful valleys and woodlands and then the bustling market town to enjoy afterwards.
We will pause en route to rest and to appreciate the views and will finish the trip off with some free time in Helmsley, so we suggest bringing some spending money for snacks, hot drinks or souvenirs before departing back for Leeds.
We will depart by coach from the Parkinson Steps at 09:00 returning at approximately 17:30. We would like to emphasise the need for good outdoor walking shoes or boots, a waterproof jacket, a drink bottle plus snacks or a packed lunch for during the walk.
