Join us as we explore the rolling countryside around Hadrian's Wall and Housesteads Fort in the heart of Northumberland.

Detailed Description

For around three centuries, Hadrian’s Wall was a vibrant, multi-cultured frontier sprawling almost 80 miles coast-to-coast. We will be walking along Hadrian's Wall, a defensive fortification which begun in AD 122 in the reign of the emperor Hadrian. 

Set high on a dramatic escarpment on Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site, Housesteads Roman Fort takes you back to the Roman Empire. There will be some free time afterwards to wander the barrack blocks and the hospital. Peer into the oldest toilets you'll ever see, and admire the stunning panoramic views from this ancient fortress. Please note that there is a small entry fee to visit Housesteads Fort.

This trip will not include a stop at any villages so please make sure you bring food for the day with you. 

We will depart by coach from the Parkinson Steps at 08:00 returning at approximately 18:30. We would like to emphasise the need for good outdoor walking shoes or boots, a waterproof jacket, a drinks bottle and a packed lunch and any snacks.

Please note: This is a more strenuous walk with some steep sections along rough paths. If you buy a ticket then please be prepared for this.

What you need to bring:

Please come in suitable footwear for uneven and unpaved terrain (walking boots or strong trainers). We also recommend you bring:

- Waterproof jacket and warm clothes

- Food and drink for during the walk

- Money to purchase items from the town

You must be at least 17 years of age to attend this trip.

When booking a place for this event, the named participant is making a commitment to attend the event. If after payment a participant cannot attend for any reason, including illness, injury and emergencies, the participant will not be entitled to a refund. The event organiser will be as accommodating as possible if the participant cannot attend and will deal with cases on an individual basis up to one week before the event. We advise that in the event of the named candidate not being able to attend that they find a replacement to take their position on the course and notify the event organiser at least one week before the date of the event. No changes can be made within one week of the event.
